Setting the Tone
On the first day of class, I greeted the new staff with a presentation detailing staff roles, individual expectations, and goals. Afterward, we discussed our goals — both individual and group — and brainstormed steps we would need to take to achieve our goals. Below is the presentation I delivered.

Note: The presentation served as a talking point, so some slides may not make sense as they are seen independently. Especially the "What do these staffers have in common" slide — that was an inside joke I made during my presentation.

Coordinating Coverage
For Sandpoint High's annual spirit competition Battle for the Paddle, the Cedar Post wanted to go big. The staff brainstormed elements we wanted to tackle for a week.
I knew I would miss the event due to a scholarship competition out of town, so I began planning with Social Media Editor Addi on how we would manage the coverage from afar.
We divided the evening into seven shifts based on events, and assigned Snapchat/Twitter coverage and Instagram/livestream coverage slots for each.
I texted everyone to remind them of their shift that afternoon from my competition. Ultimately the planning paid off and we had a successful evening of thorough coverage.

Sharing New Skills
While on Instagram one day, I saw a story with animated text. Honestly, I don't remember who's story it was or what it was about, but it inspired me greatly. I found out that the program they used was Adobe Spark, and approached my adviser about incorporating the program into Cedar Post. I familiarized myself with the program (full disclosure, it's extremely user-friendly) and tossed together a presentation to give to the class about using Spark in their own media production.

I was really excited about Adobe Spark, and said that I thought it could be the thing that would bring our social media coverage to the next level. The staff responded with enthusiasm, and fulfilled that prediction. Here are just a few Instagram posts using spark that we posted on Instagram this year.
